A fun fact about Mystic Falls, they celebrate everything - especially if it's even remotely historical. For Founder's Day, they set aside a week of events. The kickoff party has passed. It was lovely and it was at the Lockwood's like always. But, tonight, tonight is the Bachelorette Auction (amended by Mayor Carol Lockwood to be hip and have a twist of tradition. never one to color too outside the line, Miss Mystic Falls Caroline Forbes endorsed it - so everyone did). The bachelor auction is held inside the world famous Grill.

During the day, the town readies for Founder's Day as they build floats, stages and put up stands. There's even a half day off school and a cookout. The usuals: hot dogs, hamburgers, any condiment you'd like and lemonade better than your relative could make. Live music. Lively fun. Enjoy the festivities.

In the Grill there's a buffet of fried goodness and for those of age (or who can compel people things) it's happy hour. (Carol Lockwood likes her booze)

Each woman steps up to microphone and says something about themselves while bachelors throw out bids.

After, everyone splits off back into the town square for music and the winners get what could be called a date.

Her sister is in a bachelorette auction. She's going to be here. She also bought a nice new dress and nice new dresses are meant to be worn. At least, that's what Cordelia says.

Anna is lingering behind the bar, her chin resting on her hand as she watches Buffy, queen of the vampire Slayers, standing in front of a room full of men to see who would bid on her for a good cause. Something seems inherently wrong with this picture.

"How did the mayor talk her into this?"

"With backhanded compliments." Simple.

[hitchhiking]

"Ahhh," Anna nods. "This is going to end so well."

"Because it always ends well everywhere else." Come on, Anna. "Did she just say, Bunny?"

[hitchhiking]

Anna's brows furrow at that because yep. That was definitely a "Bunny." "Yeah, this is not going to win the mayor any brownie points."

"I can't watch," she says, turning back to the bar.

Who the hell is Damon Salvatore.

"Just ... I will figure out what he's up to, okay? No need to go ... nuclear."

The fact that Buffy did not see this coming is probably worrisome. The fact that she's not surprised, however is equally telling. Right now, she just doesn't want Riley slaying a vampire in the middle of a community event.

"He probably did it just to get on my nerves."

Riley's not trying to fume. He's trying hard. He's not a jealous guy. When you're caught with vampire prostitutes, you don't get to play the jealous card. But, this guy openly baited him. And it's not like a guy AWOL from the military has this much money on him. What's worse, this guy or Angel.

Or, Spike?

But, Riley very well could attempt to slay him. Talk him down.

"I don't care why he did it, Buffy. Just that he - did it." Everyone knows bachelor//bachelorette auction etiquette. If you come out swinging, that's clearly the guy who wants her. Maybe not. He's not familiar with these events but hey, it's how it should be. "Are you really gonna go on a date with that guy?"

Oh, Riley, if only you understood small town formality.

She doesn't really think she has a choice. She doesn't want to do this and that's clear on her face, but at the same time, she thinks it would be bad form to try and back out.

She hates this already.

"Maybe I can get him to cut it short."

He can't believe she's going to date another vampire.

"I don't like him," he says, stating the most obvious. He's not fuming but he's not happy and he's definitely restraining at least a balled up fist.

"I don't like him either." But it'd probably be bad form to reject a date in front of the entire town. She'd do it later, quietly, when no one else is around. "But I don't really have much of a choice right now."

While Caroline's day has pretty much gone according to plan, she knows that not everyone's has. All the same, aside from the Damon and Buffy fiasco that was sure to happen, most of these pairings were pretty evenly met, and all for a good cause.

She's currently lingering at the bar, waiting for Tyler, but she's talking to whoever might happen to talk to her. It's Caroline Forbes. The odds that she's not talking to someone are slim to none.

You know who might talk to Caroline? Caroline's best friend. Well, one of them - Elena clearly counts.

"I am surprised at this outcome," she says, standing next to Caroline. She gives her a smile. "You look amazing."

"If that's the outcome you're surprised at, we need to reevaluate our friendship." Caroline teases with a smirk, before glancing back to the crowd. "Yeah, this has been ... interesting, to say the least." Caroline isn't entirely sure what to make of the whole Damon thing, but it's ... something.

"That should be out town slogan. Or, maybe the slogan that goes with town events. 'This has been interesting, to say the least.' Plus costumes." She smirks. "Leave it to Damon to make the head-scratching decision. In what world will that date end well?"

"None of them." Caroline nods in agreement. "Though hey, if he pisses her off enough, maybe she'll slay him!" A girl can hope! Even if she isn't hoping all that hard, because she knows what it would do to Stefan and Elena.

"I think it's better for all involved if everyone just plays nice." Easier said than done. "So, what has Tyler planned?" A little nudging at how un-plan Tyler Lockwood can be.

Dawn lingers nearby, her empty glass apparent. Anna's slammed and she kind of wants alcohol. Buffy is clearly distracted. Caroline looks young.

"What're you drinking?"

Caroline glances down at her full glass of whiskey for a moment, before looking up with a shrug. "Just whiskey. Nothing special."

"Could you give a girl tips on how to get her hands on her own whiskey?" This underage girl unfamiliar with Mystic Falls and how easy it is to drink underage here. They'll serve anyone. They let Matt serve alcohol. Constantly.

Caroline smirks a bit at that, before waving down one of the easily compelable bartenders. She gives him her best flirty smile, before ordering one for both of them. And this time, she didn't have to talk him into it.

"Done. One whiskey."

Caroline, do not corrupt the underage sister of the Slayer.

"You realize you're my new favorite person." Her grin is wide as she raises her glass. "I'm Dawn."
