A fun fact about Mystic Falls, they celebrate everything - especially if it's even remotely historical. For Founder's Day, they set aside a week of events. The kickoff party has passed. It was lovely and it was at the Lockwood's like always. But, tonight, tonight is the Bachelorette Auction (amended by Mayor Carol Lockwood to be hip and have a twist of tradition. never one to color too outside the line, Miss Mystic Falls Caroline Forbes endorsed it - so everyone did). The bachelor auction is held inside the world famous Grill.

During the day, the town readies for Founder's Day as they build floats, stages and put up stands. There's even a half day off school and a cookout. The usuals: hot dogs, hamburgers, any condiment you'd like and lemonade better than your relative could make. Live music. Lively fun. Enjoy the festivities.

In the Grill there's a buffet of fried goodness and for those of age (or who can compel people things) it's happy hour. (Carol Lockwood likes her booze)

Each woman steps up to microphone and says something about themselves while bachelors throw out bids.

After, everyone splits off back into the town square for music and the winners get what could be called a date.

Half day?

Tyler's out enjoying his freedom. He hopes he'll see his girlfriend at some point, he'll also check in with his mother. He's pretty much in a good mood. There's not a lot that can bring him down. Especially, since he's out of all this Buffy-Salvatore's drama. The sun is shining and it is good to be Tyler Lockwood.

He may also be stuffing his face.

Carol admonishes him from over his shoulder as she comes to pick up a plate, though with a considerably less amount of food than the one her son is currently inhaling. She gives him a bit of a look, especially considering she knows he doesn't need to eat it.

Sure, he's been based in Sunnydale but he's never seen a small town quite like this. His Iowa small town wasn't this organized, or this into its own history. But, suffice it to say, he's exploring the down, enjoying his day and pretty much taking his vacation like a man. Though, he's quickly suspecting this is no longer a vacation but his new assignment. They need civilians on the ground as well.

Nothing wrong with being Buffy's back-up.

At some point, he and Dawn meet up and spend some quality time. It's been too long and it's almost like no years have passed. Except, he knows she's sexually active and a woman and it's just weird.

Buffy does not want him thinking about the sexual activity of her sister, thank you very much. She doesn't even want to be thinking about the sexual activity of her sister. All the same, she is wandering over, all dressed up and ready for her big debut.

"Well?" she says, turning a bit to show off her modest-yet-still-attractive outfit. "What do you think?"

Damon is not a big fan of town events. He can be found in the Mystic Grill. He is drinking and helping Alaric grade papers. Okay, he's reading them and making horrible commentary. It's possible this is entirely unprofessional. It's possible.

Stefan doesn't really know what he's doing here. He was called, so he came, but at the same time he really wishes he were anywhere but here. He had better things to do today. Like brooding. And drinking.

But hey, at least he can drink here.

"Why am I here?" He slides up on the stool next to his brother and looks over them both. "And don't say because we're Founding Family members because that excuse was old before we became vampires."

Meredith does not know how she let Carol Lockwood talk her into this. But really, it's how Carol Lockwood talks people into anything. She just leans on them until it happens. This is how Meredith is in a dress (and heels!) in the Grill, and rather desperately looking for a particular day drinking teacher.

When she finds him, she makes a beeline for the glass sitting on the bar next to him, and lifts it to down whatever's in there. She is not fond of this day already.

"Do you have enough money? Not that I'm expecting a lot of competitors, but I don't want to take any chances."

Matt Donovan grew up in Mystic Falls. He'd be out there mingling if he could but he pulled the short end of the straw and got the afternoon shift. At least he doesn't have the night shift? Bother him! He's behind the bar and waiting tables.

He also roped Jeremy in through seniority. So, Jeremy gets off a half day form the first day back to school and he has to go to work. Being a teenager sucks sometimes.

Anna is perched behind the bar, as per usual, fixing drinks for those who wish to remember as little of this day as possible. She can't really say she blames them. Not that there aren't a slew of potential alcoholics in Mystic Falls, but all the same, it's odd to see them all in one place.

She waits for Matt to swing his way back over before flashing him a smile. "Do you think this is going to work?" The him bidding for Elena thing.

Zoe isn't entirely sure why Shane wanted her to come to Mystic Falls of all places, but she wasn't complaining either. She knew that Jeremy was originally from Mystic Falls, and there's a part of her that missed him.

A lot.

But the girl that walks into the Grill is far from the timid girl who Jeremy knew in Colorado. She steps with purpose, so much more sure of herself than she was then, and only pauses at the bar for a moment to pick up on where he's busing a table, before making her way closer, clamping her hands down over his eyes from behind.

"Guess who."

And, to the surprise of no one, Caroline Forbes looks calm, collected and completely prepared. She takes a step forward to the microphone.

"Hi, I'm Caroline Forbes. I'm the current Miss Mystic Falls, as well as a member of several community events including - " And the narration is just going to imply that they're listed here because she doesn't even know them all. Throw in her ideal date for good measure. " - and I look forward to enjoying my date with the lucky winner."

Who will probably be her boyfriend. But unlike Meredith, she doesn't actually say that.

Well, this isn't awkward at all. Elena takes a step towards the microphone with a small smile before waving. "Hi. I'm Elena. I'm a senior at Mystic Falls High. Most of you have probably known me since I was ... really little. Uh. I recently competed in Miss Mystic Falls, and I like to be actively involved in Founder's Events and ... there's not really much to say about me."

That isn't bogged down in supernatural crap anyway.

She takes a step back and Carol turns back to the rest of the group with a smile. "Alright. Who will start the bidding?"

When local bands aren't taking the stage, Carol Lockwood gives a speech commemorating the founding of their town. More food is served as well as iced tea and beverages. Alcohol should be kept inside the Mystic Grill. Put a blanket down on the grass and stay awhile...

At some point during the dates, at the height of a particularly loud set the good Pastor sets off the Gilbert device.

He won his girlfriend fair and square. He didn't pre-plan so they're going with the food that's there. But, he did sneak a bottle of Prosecco. And of all people that will call him out on it, his mother will not be one of them. And the band's not half bad.

So, Damon's a big fan of keeping your friends close and your enemies closer. Also, everyone seems to think he should come to some sort of agreement/detente with Buffy. So, consider this his detente. Also, he's a terrible date, didn't plan on anything and he did just pull a flower off the fake trellis and hand it to her.

Damon Salvatore cannot win Elena Gilbert. Matt has known Elena a long time. She's a really good friend. So it's time to catch up, regroup and just have some no strings attached, easy, safe, non-sexual friend time while listening to some music and enjoying iced cream. But, he is a gentleman. He does hold the front door open for her.

They're still early in the relationship but hand holding's not too much right? Because, he goes for her hand as they walk the town square. And he buys her some iced cream. Maybe time to swap war stories. Considering last auction he won Jenna, this is a little repeating himself but it sure doesn't feel like it. Things are new and for the first time, not dangerous or murderous. Also, he let the reins go loose as a guardian. He's a little tipsy. And really enjoying himself.

One spinster witch reporting for duty. Suffice it to say, she's hanging by herself but not in any self pitying way. She likes the music and the iced cream is good. Her friends seem happy though she's acutely aware of Damon and Buffy. Like Tyler, it's like the calm after the storm of a hellish few months.
