A fun fact about Mystic Falls, they celebrate everything - especially if it's even remotely historical. For Founder's Day, they set aside a week of events. The kickoff party has passed. It was lovely and it was at the Lockwood's like always. But, tonight, tonight is the Bachelorette Auction (amended by Mayor Carol Lockwood to be hip and have a twist of tradition. never one to color too outside the line, Miss Mystic Falls Caroline Forbes endorsed it - so everyone did). The bachelor auction is held inside the world famous Grill.

During the day, the town readies for Founder's Day as they build floats, stages and put up stands. There's even a half day off school and a cookout. The usuals: hot dogs, hamburgers, any condiment you'd like and lemonade better than your relative could make. Live music. Lively fun. Enjoy the festivities.

In the Grill there's a buffet of fried goodness and for those of age (or who can compel people things) it's happy hour. (Carol Lockwood likes her booze)

Each woman steps up to microphone and says something about themselves while bachelors throw out bids.

After, everyone splits off back into the town square for music and the winners get what could be called a date.

One spinster witch reporting for duty. Suffice it to say, she's hanging by herself but not in any self pitying way. She likes the music and the iced cream is good. Her friends seem happy though she's acutely aware of Damon and Buffy. Like Tyler, it's like the calm after the storm of a hellish few months.

Bonnie Bennett is not a spinster. That is simply Stefan Salvatore's opinion on the matter. But Stefan also happens to have had a great deal of alcohol at the moment, so it's hard to say whether or not that may be affecting his judgement.

(It's not. Bonnie is far too young to be a spinster.)

Regardless, Stefan is drunk and watching Buffy and Damon just as intently as Bonnie is (and possibly a certain army man who is very unhappy about the whole thing). He stares at them intently as he sidles up next to Bonnie, before glancing over to her with a frown.

"He didn't happen to confide in you that this is all part of some kind of hair-brained plan, did he?"

It's just, when your last boyfriend cheated on you with a ghost and you're only sort of dating your mother's - do they still call them wards? Love, boyfriends, and Bonnie don't mix. They're either immature or they're dangerous, lying vampires. Or, lying witches. She's okay with being a spinster. At least for now. Maybe forever. Maybe she'll try women. Or, buy a vibrator. Or, stop entertaining thoughts of physical pleasure and focus on magic. And mom. The two m's.

Bonnie for her part is not drunk. She is enjoying lemonade. Today is a lemonade day. Mystic Falls really needs to add more flavors to festivities.

"I'd have to have talked to him to find out." Damon doesn't fall in her immediate social circle. He only comes up on her radar if they need her/she needs to threaten a vampire. "You're having fun." And it occurs to her. "I should have more fun. Can I," she asks, holding her hand out.

Come on, Stefan. Let her have some of your drink.

Yes, well, your last boyfriend was an idiot, as far as Stefan is concerned.

Granted, what boy isn't an idiot at seventeen.

Stefan passes the drink over without a second thought - he's a vampire, what did he care - and gives a bit of a shrug. "More people should be having fun. Look at Alaric and Meredith."

They were very clearly already in the fun zone.

He was. He kind of still is. And he never fully apologized which is on him. Her face - is easily a face you can apologize to. But, it wasn't meant to be. Not that she finds her and Jamie being meant to be. It's more texts and the occasional over-nighter. And barely at that.

Matt's... not always an idiot. He's done idiot things but he's kind of the epitome of how to be at seventeen. Besides the throwing himself into a pool to communicate with his sister thing. That was not his finest moment.

She doesn't hesitate to take a gulp of his - she coughs it down - top shelf liquor. Smiling, she hands it back, eyeing the couple of the moment.

"They are the poster couple for fun," she says, smiling. "That happens to everyone, right? Eventually?" she asks Stefan. He should be the authority, if you ask her, on romance over time. He's lived long enough. She just hopes he can give her some hope.

It's been a pretty hopeless few weeks.

"That's what I've heard. Eventually you find someone you can get drunk with in public and having fun at a Founding Family event where everyone else is uncomfortable."

If only he had already met this person for him.

"I don't know. I think of everything I'm feeling, uncomfortable isn't up there," she says, an upswing from her momentary mood drop. "Are you feeling uncomfortable?" It's a true statement that of the two Salvatore brothers, Bonnie prefers Stefan. Yes, he's done terrible things. Haven't they all.

But, tonight, Stefan is a friend. And he's going through something.

First and foremost, above the judgy (which is just below the surface), Bonnie is a friend. And her friends are occupied. So, Stefan gets Bonnie.

"I'm slightly uncomfortable." He pauses for a moment. "Not because of the company, but because I was brought here to an event I wasn't aware of to verify whether or not I would be buying my ex-girlfriend - awkward - when odds are if Alaric hadn't said a word, it never would have come up n the first place."

His day has gone to a very weird place.

"That's why you're here? Because Alaric confronted you about Elena?" Tactless, Alaric. "He didn't think that after everything, you'd... sit this one out?" Especially with how out of the loop he'd been in. "I'm sorry, Stefan." Did it help that she went to Matt? She's not going to ask but, she does wonder.

Every day she lives ends in a weird place.

"Well, I'm glad I'm here, then. Maybe I can lessen the awkward. Or, feel awkward myself so you won't be alone?" She gives him a smile, tries to get him to smile.

Not a smile, but a bit of a smirk. He appreciates the gesture if nothing else, and he'll give a bit of a nod before taking his drink back from her to finish it. He is already done with today.

"As much as I appreciate the offer, I think I'm just going to head home. It's safer for everyone that way."

He doesn't feel like being a people person right now.

"Okay," she says, knowingly. She's not going to pry, nor is she going to push him to stay. She herself rode the morally grey humanity switch train with him with Klaus' siblings, with Esther. Nothing she can say can change what happened, nor can she really help. This is Stefan's deal.
