Whittemore College is located anywhere between an hour and three hours away from Mystic Falls depending on traffic and the lead foot of the person driving the car. That lead foot being Damon because Buffy Summers doesn't drive. To say that their friendship has grown is to say their antagonizing has mellowed. They remain in a truce and with Damon skipping town, Buffy continues to keep her pseudo enemies close. Bonnie and Elena stick together, checking out a possibility for college. Elena in the literature department and Bonnie seriously considering occult studies. Tyler would rather be elsewhere but Caroline's numerous text reminders, picnic basket for when they want lunch and most likely a five pronged approach to why Tyler should go to college keep him from sleeping in. Matt asks Anna to go with them, their relationship all but solidified now. For Matt, it's less of a does he want to, it's more of a ... can he fit in.

There's a specific lecture Bonnie's interesting that she drags Elena to. One on the occult and an ancient witch named Quetsiyah. Damon and Buffy aren't far behind. He'd say he's not keeping tabs on Elena but... There's a campus bar-restaurant with two levels which seems to double as a library area.

That night, there's a house party thrown for prospective students. Caroline will probably drag everyone. Everyone under age of course. Everyone considered Mystic Falls and friends.

Everything happened so fast.

It's an odd thing to say, because for once vampires weren't the cause of it. These were humans, moving at normal human speeds, but for some reason it was Founder's Day, all over again. And now they don't know what to do, beyond calling Stefan, who through some miracle happened to be home at the time of the event, rather than in town, just like they all were.

They all were.

Elena is currently perched on the couch, trying to figure out what she's supposed to do next. She doesn't trust Buffy, Alaric is too drunk to come up with an effectual plan at the moment. Everyone's looking to her, and she isn't sure if she can do it, can take the reins and save everyone, because all of Elena's plans usually end in someone getting hurt. So she sits, and she waits, and she hopes that Stefan can be useful and mediate through this because she sure as hell isn't.

But eventually the front door opens and he appears in the room, meeting her eyes, and she exhales slowly, feeling herself relax. Right now, this isn't about them. This is about getting Damon, Caroline and Tyler back. That, if nothing else, they can agree on.

"Okay," she says, glancing to the others in the room. "Where do we start?"

Riley knows he's keeping the fort down. He, Giles, and Xander are in charge. That in itself is cool. He's temporarily taken over tactical - plus training - and it gives him things to do. It keeps his mind busy and that's really what he needs. After the fiasco with Alec and Bailey, Buffy pulled away. She put her general hat back on snugly and it hasn't come off since. When Willow feels what Xander calls a disturbance in the force, Buffy jumps at the chance to check it out. She jumps at the chance to pull further away. It might not be how it went down but that's how it feels. History repeats itself and Riley stays silent. But, Riley has grown. He's divorced. He won't stay silent forever. He loves Buffy Summers.

When it sounds like Buffy is putting down temporary roots, Riley does his best not to take it personally. Dawn notices and reassures him. Buffy's not the only one who messed up. She did, too. This isn't about Riley or Alec or Bailey. It's about Buffy. It's about Buffy and new vampires and cursed rings.

Dawn reminds him it's a big. New vampires are scary and unpredictable and having the general there in their territory is going to help everyone. Things will get done. Because things get done when Buffy's around.

It's Dawn's idea to get out of the castle. But, when Riley tries to order the jet to be gassed up, she gives him a look. One of the other witches gets Willow on the horn. In seconds Dawn and Riley are in Mystic Falls. Dawn explains, this way Riley and Buffy get some alone time and Dawn gets to go somewhere besides an old, cold Scottish castle with no boys in sight. Well, no real boy options. She's feeling boy peckish with a lack of Alec. She needs a nice, normal boy. Riley and Willow just gape during Dawn's ramble. It's not long before she's pushing Riley out of the room she's decided she's sharing with Willow.

Buffy has the room next door. He thinks about calling her but that would delay the inevitable. Maybe she'll be happy to see him. Riley knocks in hopes of just that.

Routine's always the same. Shove a stake through their heart, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

To say Faith is surprised is the understatement of the century. Her stake punctures heart. She can feel it. She's very into her own stake. She knows it. Yet, no crumbling to dust, no poof. If anything, the vampire hardens, his eyes permanently fixed in a state of surprise. Like, how dare this chick have the audacity to shove anything into me let alone a stake that should make me an ex body. She should need a dust pan. Or a vaccuum. Not that she ever cleans. Nah, not her place. Not that she spends a lot of her time at her room near the Los Angeles cell. She spends a lot of it at the Hyperion. Cordelia - now that she's Cordelia and not some crazy pregnant chick - has gotten pretty cool. At least tolerable. She definitely doesn't miss high school Veronica to Buffy's Betty.

Who would that make Archie?

Needless to say, the vampire collapses into Faith and she now has a body to take care of.

"Motherfu-"

But, she can't alert people to anything. She did her time. She wasn't going back.

A call to Angel means he, Cordelia, and Wes arrive on the scene. Wes inspects the body. Cordelia doesn't understand. Angel's even confused. The best they can gather is that there's some kind of spell stopping vampires from becoming vaccuum chow.

It's Wes who makes the breakthrough.

Shit. Looks like there's not only another player in town - or in the world but there has been for who the hell knows how long. How'd they miss this? New vampire species means the General gets a call. Faith excuses herself - let's be honest here, she just gets up from the conversation and pulls out her iPhone. She's never been one for fancy shit but it's easy to use. She and Robin can Face Time from - time to time and no she won't talk about that. Even if you ask.

She steps away from the group.

"Outside of Dracula, I've never heard of a vampire having a sort of thrall," Angel says, setting the book down. It's unprecedented. And dangerous for every human out there. Forget seduction. This is downright mind control.

"So, that's gonna take a little time," Damon succinctly sums up, never one to make anything better in times like these.

Of course, of course now is the time when Elena and Matt Donovan come around the corner.

All day Damon has been trying to help. He drops by Alaric's cell. He wastes his time with Anna. He pays a visit to his brother and his witchy helper. He connects the dots regarding Samantha Gilbert slipping through their fingers, literally. Okay, fine, Stefan finds the answer and Bonnie Bennett helps some. Damon just fills in a few of the blanks. He finds it cute that Stefan doesn't admit he had a hand in Samantha Gilbert's untimely false demise but he doesn't burst his brother's bubble. There's a brief pause as he takes a call from a suspicious Meredith Fell and while she's not Damon's biggest fan, she confirms Anna's friend is a person of interest. Good call, Elena Gilbert. Here's a kewpie doll. Since the mystery at hand has been solved - and Jeremy should probably be grabbed at some point, he's already making lists of things that need to be done (and Jeremy being his first thought after Alaric means Elena has officially invaded his system, something he doesn't need to confirm. She's been there for some time now) - he's done for the night.

All day Damon has noticed how Stefan is teetering on the edge of control. Cold turkey works for no man. And he has never personally subscribed to it. If Stefan is ever going to learn moderation, he needs to start now. Stefan's reluctant when Damon finds a pretty girl on the street. Maybe a little scared. It takes less then a second to compel her and he bites down, quietly. She doesn't scream and Damon isn't going to kill her. She has no ring and it'd be a mess and besides, this lesson isn't about carnage.

It's about control.

And then Stefan stops him.

Damon has no choice put to present her to Stefan, to reason with his brother, to get him to bite down and accept what and who he is.

"You can't go from one extreme to the other." Stefan never could. Nobody really can. That's not how they're wired. "You have to learn to not be controlled by blood." He brings the girl closer and finally, finally Stefan bites down.

Congratulations, Stefan, you've leveled up.

Damon makes sure to end it before things go to far. He successfully stops Stefan from draining the poor girl. He quickly bites into his wrist and brings it to her mouth to heal her. And, there they are, as if they were invited. Right on time. Matt and Elena. Elena and Matt, on some kind of night time walk and wasn't he out of town? The quarterback must be a speeder. Elena stands aghast as Stefan turns, blood in his mouth, eyes all veiny. This is exactly what they needed tonight. Not.

One step forward.

Willow changes her grip on the steering wheel. She can feel the energy. Big mojo has gone down. And it isn't the first time. What she knows is that months back, before the summer even started something happened. The balance was upset. Something that happened shouldn't have happened and ever since, the spirits have been restless. Her network of witches kept her informed. It's hard not to monitor something like that when she can feel the shifts in energy in her bones.

Everything connects.

Outside of the crackle of energy, Willow is trying very hard not to ask Buffy about what might not even be a relationship. Slayers talk. The big hoop-la lately is whether or not Buffy and Riley are really Buffy and Riley. They might just be Buffy - and - Riley. Separate entities brought back into each other's orbits. Should Buffy want to talk about it, Willow is there.

"Welcome to Mystic Falls," Willow says, reading the sign they pass. "The sign is friendly," she says, glancing to Buffy. It doesn't give away anything. To the outside world, Mystic Falls is a small town in Virginia with a passionate historical society. Their website rivals other small towns. But, there's an underbelly. A big, honkin underbelly of vampire activity. There's a powerful witch somewhere in this town and she did something big.

"The town is big on celebrations. Very into its history. They have founding families and everything." Sunnydale had never been this into itself. No, Sunnydale did not have school or town spirit.

She glances over at Buffy again as they drive into what looks like the town square.

"Where to?" She slows down, taking note of the restaurant, the bench, the small shops. It's a very quaint small town. Truth be told, she doesn't exactly know where to start. She knows that the sun won't set for hours so they should be good on vampires. She pulls up to the curb so they can get their bearings. Putting the car into park, she gives their surroundings another look.
